Frequently Asked Questions – DokaLab
Photo Chemicals & Materials
How should I dispose of photo chemicals like the developer and fixer?
Never pour used photo developer or fixer liquids down the drain. Instead, absorb them using materials like shredded cardboard or cat litter, then dispose of them in your regular trash. Proper photo chemical disposal protects both your plumbing and the environment.
Can I restock photo paper and darkroom chemicals?
Absolutely! Your Doka darkroom kit is reusable. You can restock with new photo paper, developer, and fixer, either from our shop or from most photography supply stores.
Doka Assembly & Maintenance
Can I disassemble and reassemble my DokaLab box?
We don’t recommend it. The cardboard tabs can tear easily, so it’s best to keep your Doka built once assembled.
What if the cardboard tears during assembly?
No worries! Use masking tape to patch any tears. Cardboard is forgiving, and tape is a quick fix.
Darkroom Setup
Does my darkroom need to be completely lightproof?
Not entirely. Small light leaks (e.g., under a bathroom door) are usually fine, as long as no direct light hits the photo paper. For tips, watch our tutorial: "Is Your Darkroom Dark Enough?"
Printing Photos & Images
Why is my photo paper completely white after developing?
It was likely exposed on the wrong side.
Why is my paper completely black or covered in black stains?
The photo paper was exposed to light, possibly from your phone screen or menu bar. Always keep the paper covered until use.
Why are there white spots on my photo print?
This usually means the paper was contaminated with fixer.
Can I print black and white negatives?
Yes! You can print B&W negatives using DokaLab. Visit our tutorials page for a step-by-step guide.
Do I need to convert my photo to black and white first?
No. The DokaLab app automatically handles the conversion and formatting.
Can I print images other than photos?
Yes! You can print drawings, illustrations, or any images from your phone or computer.
Is DokaLab available in other paper sizes?
Currently, DokaLab only supports the 10x13 photo paper size.
Safety & Kid-Friendliness
Is DokaLab safe for kids?
Yes, with adult supervision recommended for children under 14. The chemicals are safe when used as directed. We include gloves and protective eyewear. In case of skin contact, wash immediately with soap and water.
